36. What didn't last forever but was still worth your while?
Wow... that's a loaded question at this point in my life. I can think of one overarching piece that was worth my time and effort in spite of the pain and anguish that accompanied the termination of it: leaving my former congregation. From my time there, I gained such a solid foundation in the lifestyle of living out Torah and immeasurable growth personally and spiritually, though at a heavy, heavy cost.
Aside from that, I can also think of several other chapters in my life that were worthwhile:
~ my time in Catholic school and church
~ over 20 years in public education
~ the many travel opportunities I've had
~ many years of turmoil in my marriage
There are too many others to name, really. Every chapter had a purpose and led to each successive chapter, adding experience and growth each time.
37. If you could go back in time and tell a younger version of yourself one thing, what would it be?
Don't settle for whatever or whoever comes along.
Do not fear - step out and do what you really want to do.
Be vulnerable and shed those fears that keep you from loving others.
Be proud of your accomplishments.
Focus outward rather than inward.
38. If you knew you were dying in 60 seconds, what would your last words be?
Hineini - Here I am.
I love you - thank you.
Baruch Atah Adonai - Blessed are You, O L-rd.
39. When all is said and done, will you have said more than you have done?
Wow... I certainly hope not. There are days when I feel as if I've wasted so much of my life... though I know each and every step I take is ordained by the Master Himself. Therefore, I have lived my life to the best of my ability.
40. What questions do you often ask yourself?
Why did I not say anything?
Is it really that hard to for someone else to change the toilet paper roll?
Who can I encourage today?
How can I help those I love today?
What is my purpose for being here?
What should I do today?
Why is it so hard to put the box in the recycle bag?
Did I say anything dumb today?
An excellent ending to a worthwhile endeavor, Lis...these are great answers. I know I have totally enjoyed your thoughts as you have gone through them all with me. Thanks for always being right by my side, my dear, dear friend. :-)
